Plumbing Horror Stories: Holiday Edition

Ever hear the one about the time Santa got stuck in the toilet? What about the one about the guy with the garbage disposal that ate the engagement ring he was about to give his girlfriend for Christmas? The holidays are a busy but stressful time for everyone – including your pipes and drains. This year’s festivities may be over but the professionals at Pell Plumbing want to remind you that plumbing emergencies can happen anytime – keep their number on speed dial in case you find yourself in one of these unfortunate predicaments…

Toilet Turkey: A few years ago a plumber in Florida received a call from an elderly woman with a clogged toilet. The culprit? An entire turkey carcass shoved down the bowl on Thanksgiving evening. Her reasoning? She didn’t have a garbage disposal. Go figure.

Secret Sink: A Tampa man sweetly decides to change out the bathroom hardware as a gift on Christmas Eve while his wife was sleeping. It would have worked, too, if he hadn’t severed an in-wall line in the process – nothing like a little 4am visit from a local plumber to bring on the holiday cheer.

Best Impressions: An Iowa girl meeting her boyfriend’s family for the first time disappears to an upstairs bathroom after a particularly rich Thanksgiving meal. You can guess the rest (or maybe not) – the toilet clogs, she panics and quietly slips back downstairs only to have the overflow, water and all, drip through the ceiling onto everyone’s heads only a few minutes later.

Bird’s the Word: Why not install a new faucet on Thanksgiving morning? This is why. A father and son plumbing team were called out to fix what the husband couldn’t and in the process get roped into the Thanksgiving meal preparations. While the son is removing the turkey from the oven he drops the pan – the hot, greasy bird bounces off his father’s belly who’s laying on his back under the sink. The meal was ruined but the sink did get fixed.

If you think your holiday season was rough just be thankful you weren’t one of these unlucky homeowners. With Easter and spring break just around the corner now’s the time to get started on those lingering renovations – not the day of. Call Pell Plumbing for a professional job done right the first time…no one wants to pay a plumber his holiday overtime rates.
